Technology description: Continental ContiWinterContact TS850 is a tyre that reaches its full potential on the wheels of medium-class vehicles and compact passenger cars. The model is designed to handle every detail of the winter road surface. The tyre has the following characteristics: short braking distance on wet, icy and snowy roads, high stability during operation in any winter conditions, low rolling resistance, which promotes impressive economic performance, more efficient operation and a minimised negative environmental impact.
The surface of Continental ContiWinterContact TS850 includes numerous sharp edges (called Sipping technology). Thanks to this, transverse forces are transferred to the surface more easily which is particularly useful on bends or when changing lanes at high speed. As a result, the tyre steers well and is distinguished by a high grip even in the most difficult winter conditions.
The short braking distance on snow and ice is ensured by its large number of blocks and sipes. Compared to the previous model (Continental ContiWinterContact TS830), the total length of the tyre’s sipes is higher by as much as 20 metres. The increased number of sipes stands for much better water drainage and improved ice grip (the wiper effect). With these features, the braking distance of your vehicle will be shorter.
The tyre is manufactured using a harder filling material in comparison to the previous model. Combined with an additional reinforcement of the bead toe, it ensures a better transfer of lateral forces. Thanks to this optimised flexibility, Continental ContiWinterContact TS850 features lower energy loss during deflection. This translates into more comfortable travel, better driving and a 10% lower rolling resistance (as compared to the previous model).
Information on the manufacturer: Continental is a
globally recognised German tyre company which owns such brands as Uniroyal, Barum, Semperit, Matador and Viking. The company officially started in October 1871. Apart from tyres, its manufacturing plant produced footwear, water-resistant materials and even balls and toys. Their first major success of was Mercedes’ victory in the Nice-Salon-Nice race held in 1901. Subsequent years brought more landmark events. Thanks to them, Continental today is
one of the largest and most valued manufacturers of premium-class tyres.
