Firstly, I wanted to buy Firestone WinterHawk 1 but these are not being manufactured anymore. That is why I kept on searching for tyres with a similar tread. I chose Continental ContiWinterContact TS850. I have been using them for one winter season and I am satisfied with their quality. The tyres are quiet and I have an impression that the car drives better than on my summer Dunlops. The driving is quiet and comfortable and very safe in snow. I have never had problems on road with these tyres. They provide really good grip even if you drive a diesel with a high torque on a roundabout, They are great in rainy weather but I think they are a bit louder in wet conditions (I would not say it is a drawback - it is rather normal). When it comes to pure ice roads, it is obvious that only the snow tyres with spikes would be useful there. However, I have not noticed any signs of wear on the tyres. They could have been a bit cheaper but still the price is quite reasonable. The fuel consumption has not changed significantly. Generally speaking it is a pleasure to drive a car on these tyres. I recommend them to everyone who drives often in the city. I have tyres with the T speed rating (up to 118 mph) and I have driven on them with the max. speed of 130 mph. I have not experienced any vibrations or noise at all. It is simply luxe:) Read more Collapse

I have done the mileage around 3200 miles on these tyres. Driving sensations are very positive. I used to drive mainly in the city on GoodYear tyres in the past (I had GY 4seasons previously) and they were quite good although they were all-season tyres. I knew that in this year I will have to drive in hard terrain so I have decided to buy Continental ContiWinterContact TS850. I have them in the size 195/65/R15. When it comes to the rolling resistance I have not noticed an increased fuel consumption. I have not experienced any problems while driving in snow and slush. On the wet road I have not noticed an aquaplaning phenomenon. The braking distance is perfect. I thought the tyres will have some problems on ice since majority of them do. However, they surprised me positively. Once I stopped my car immediately without a long skid although I was driving at high speed. Admittedly, the braking systems helped the car to slow down but I think the tyres contributed significantly to the outcome. I think it is really worth to spend a bit more money and buy these tyres in order to have a guarantee of safety. Read more Collapse

Tyres are as good as I thought. I am fully satisfied with their quality. They meet my expectations. I did not have any problems with driving my car in winter. I was wondering how deep I can drive into the snow without getting stuck. The tyres turned out to be great both in deep snow and slush. They are perfect on dry surface as well (especially in corners). The ABS/ESP systems did not have to activate because a car did not skid at all. The tyres are quiet since they have been designed to absorb a road noise, making the driving more comfortable. I think that after changing the tyres pressure to the value recommended by the manufacturer the driving will be even more comfortable! I will check that in next winter season. My car is heavy and I drive rather fast but I have not noticed any wear symptoms. I strongly recommend. Read more Collapse

The tyres purchased after several hours of reading about their safety, performance and comparisons between Continental and different premium brands. I had to choose the best and the safest tyres available as I knew they will be mounted on my wive's car. I have decided to buy the Continental ContiWinter Contact TS850 tyres. After using them in different weather conditions like snow, slush, rain and mud, I can say that this choice was as good as the one I have made 10 years ago when I decided to marry my present wife. The tyres turned out to be tremendous. Had I had a possibility of turning back the clock, I would not have purchased different tyres. I do recommend these tyres as well as the Oponeo online shop. The delivery of the tyres was very fast. The price is simply great and the quality of the tyres is astonishing! Read more Collapse

Technology description: Continental ContiWinterContact TS850 is a tyre that reaches its full potential on the wheels of medium-class vehicles and compact passenger cars. The model is designed to handle every detail of the winter road surface. The tyre has the following characteristics: short braking distance on wet, icy and snowy roads, high stability during operation in any winter conditions, low rolling resistance, which promotes impressive economic performance, more efficient operation and a minimised negative environmental impact.

The surface of Continental ContiWinterContact TS850 includes numerous sharp edges (called Sipping technology). Thanks to this, transverse forces are transferred to the surface more easily which is particularly useful on bends or when changing lanes at high speed. As a result, the tyre steers well and is distinguished by a high grip even in the most difficult winter conditions.

The short braking distance on snow and ice is ensured by its large number of blocks and sipes. Compared to the previous model (Continental ContiWinterContact TS830), the total length of the tyre’s sipes is higher by as much as 20 metres. The increased number of sipes stands for much better water drainage and improved ice grip (the wiper effect). With these features, the braking distance of your vehicle will be shorter.

The tyre is manufactured using a harder filling material in comparison to the previous model. Combined with an additional reinforcement of the bead toe, it ensures a better transfer of lateral forces. Thanks to this optimised flexibility, Continental ContiWinterContact TS850 features lower energy loss during deflection. This translates into more comfortable travel, better driving and a 10% lower rolling resistance (as compared to the previous model).

Information on the manufacturer: Continental is a globally recognised German tyre company which owns such brands as Uniroyal, Barum, Semperit, Matador and Viking. The company officially started in October 1871. Apart from tyres, its manufacturing plant produced footwear, water-resistant materials and even balls and toys. Their first major success of was Mercedes’ victory in the Nice-Salon-Nice race held in 1901. Subsequent years brought more landmark events. Thanks to them, Continental today is one of the largest and most valued manufacturers of premium-class tyres.
