Tyre details: The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 was designed especially for racing drivers, but is also approved for use on public roads. It is the latest tyre from the French-owned Michelin to feature Michelin Total Performance technology, which applies the philosophy of endurance racing to deliver superlative performance. Drivers who are interested in purchasing this tyre will be reassured to hear that it lasts for over 50% more laps at an even higher speed than its predecessor (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup+).
The outstanding performance of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 results from the use of three cutting-edge technologies during its manufacture. The first of these is Bi-Compound technology, which involves the use of a compound containing high molecular chain elastomers for the exterior section of the tyre (providing outstanding grip on tight corners) and a more rigid elastomer for the interior section (ensuring precise steering and driving control). The combination of these elements guarantees superb grip on dry roads and more balanced lap times on dry tracks.
The second technology used by the designers of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is Track Longevity 2.0®, which is evident in the tyre's reinforced exterior shoulders and is intended to provide greater durability and resistance. This aim has been achieved, since the wear rate of the tyre's exterior shoulder has been reduced.
The third key design feature of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is its tread depth, which is increased by 20% compared to its predecessor. This increases the theoretical aquaplaning speed and therefore significantly improves grip and safety when driving on wet roads.
The French-owned Michelin is one of the world's largest tyre manufacturers. The company was founded in 1889, and its range focuses on the premium end of the market. The group owns brands including: Kleber, BFGoodrich and Kormoran.
The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is fitted as original equipment in the Ford Focus RS.
