The Kumho WinterCraft WP52 EV tyre is a variant of the Korean manufacturer's proven winter model for mid-range cars. The tyre features a tread from a conventional counterpart that has been optimised for electric vehicles. The most significant changes lie in the compound used for the EV version.
High-grip and durable compound
While working on the new WinterCraft WP52 EV tyre, Kumho's designers used a material that ensures adequate flexibility in sub-zero temperatures without causing excessive wear above zero degrees Celsius. By combining a new generation of polymers and specially selected silica, it was possible to achieve lower rolling resistance, which translates into increased vehicle energy efficiency.
Stable construction
The performance and weight of electric cars place high demands on tyres in terms of operating stability. The Korean manufacturer's designers optimised the structure to meet drivers' expectations. The high torque and vehicle weight are especially noticeable during dynamic cornering. To ensure full control in all conditions, the designers reinforced the tyre bead to avoid the drifting effect that affects both tyre safety and durability.
The acceleration capabilities of electric vehicles also have a negative impact on tyre life. The use of 3D interlocking sipes increases the tyre's resistance to premature wear and prevents it from tearing.
Convenience
By eliminating engine noise, the driver is more exposed to the sound of the rolling tyres. For this reason, the level of the noise in the cabin is extremely important for electric vehicle users. The WinterCraft WP52 EV features a special K-Silent insert that significantly reduces the annoying noise reaching the car’s interior.
The designers also undertook to reduce the negative impact on the immediate surroundings. K-Noise Defender technology, consisting of a special tread structure, dissipates the sound waves generated by the tyre.
Ecological in every way
Kumho Tire has been committed to ecological solutions for many years. The model designed for electric vehicles couldn’t do without them. With the use of technologies that reduce the rolling resistance, it was possible to cut back on energy requirements, which allows electric cars to extend their range.
Tread for various conditions
During the winter season, a tyre has to deal with a variety of weather conditions, most often rain, snow or slush. The design of the Kumho WinterCraft WP52 EV promotes self-cleaning while driving. This is made possible by the directional tread pattern.
The wide transverse grooves facilitate water drainage and their shape prevents aquaplaning.
Elegant design
Apart from the exceptional performance in its class, the tyre by the Korean manufacturer features a remarkable design.
Kumho Tires - about the manufacturer Kumho Tires is a South Korea-based company with roots going back to the 1960s. Since the beginning, the manufacturer has focused on innovation and technological development.
